new chicks dying like crazy... possible pullorum or paratyphoid??

Hi all!

I have raised baby chicks before, never lost one... but this year I got a shipment from a hatchery with a good reputation, that says they are tested for paratyphoid and pullorum... but of 25 chicks, 5 were DOA, and all but 6 have since passed.  3 of those left are thin, not eating well, and lethargic, one of those has swollen eyes.  I have never seen such a thing!  I don't believe it is husbandry - same brooder set up I have used before complete with thermostat, medicated chick starter, and clean water both with and without electrolytes.  The symptoms seem to fit with one of those two diseases, but the hatchery says they are clear of those.  Can shipping cause this many issues?  Thanks for any thoughts...

Chicken math strikes again... we are now at 16 hens!  half are pullets that will start laying soon.  We just adopted 6 bcm chicks, and next week we'll have 25 surprise rare breed pullets and 2 female leghorn chicks.  :)  I love spring!!!!

sure hope so... I'm considering having them tested for Salmonella just to be sure... don't want to introduce that to my flock.  :/
