thanks everybody!!!!!!!

a silkie would be the last chicken to beat someone up. In fact, they are so docile that care should be taken they don't get beaten up. You should get at least two, preferably three or more, and keep them with other nice chickens that have lots of space, food, and water. I have heard that they can be more susceptible to mites but have not had this problem. They shouldn't get really wet and their crests and inability to fly make them easy targets for predators. I only free range them when I am present. They are pretty friendly, of course handle them as chicks and then you may want to trim their crests so they aren't scared by things such as your hands coming by them. I've never done that though. I got my first silkie when i was about eleven, i think. You can get them anywhere that sells chicks, they are very popular. The feed store should have some, the hatcheries and of course breeders if you are after show quality.

My silkies I have found (the hens) to be very sweet. They are only "mean" when they are laying on eggs and I disturb them...then I get pecked

Silkies are fantastic friendly and beautiful birds. I have several chicken breeds but a few months ago got a couple of silkies. I now have lovely silky chicks and they are a joy to watch. They are VERY good mothers and very good broodies and love to sit on a bunch of eggs - hence my new chicks. I would recommend them to someone starting out , they dont need too much space and dont fly and coe in a fantastic variety of colours - good luck and have lots of fun

thanks u guys im really happy(

poor Sooty! It does not seem to be a lucky name! My rabbit Soots was just beaten up by his brother (so much for this whole they're so mellow, oh they are so social you MUST have them together stuff the everybody insisted on). Then again maybe it is lucky, because they both survived. I don't know how bad off Sooty was, but it sounds awful, and Soots had a dangerously low temp., the vet was amazed he pulled through! They are both very lucky to have such good owners to care for them when they are hurt. You gotta watch those little kids, they can get the strangest ideas about handling the animals, if you turn your back for a second... you would never imagine it... and sometimes older kids too, at least with little ones they don't mean to hurt them, but if it's an older one being deliberately cruel i can't stand it. Sounds like you will be more than able to handle a silkie after all that!

silkeys are very good chickens, and soooo cute, but they cant really fly so if a prediter gets into the coop than there dead.....
