Fantail cage & nesting box; opinions?

Have a pair of Am. Fantails. Until I allow them to roost in the stalls, I've. Created. Temporary situation for them. I'd appreciate your opinions.

They are in a cage 3' high by 2' deep. There are two different dowels for roosts. I made a nest housing from a 1 gal bucket turned upside down with a big archway cut into the bottom. The bottom is cage wire covered in pine needles.

I just want the new male (female has been here for 6 weeks) to get accustomed to the stall & be able to eventually come & go from the cage set-up. My breeder says to keep them locked up for 2-4 weeks.

Any suggestions?

You don't need the bucket that way. Give them a nest bowl. If you don't have one cut the bucket about three inches from the bottom and use that. Give them straw, hay or tobacco stems for nesting matieral.
