Hovabator Genesis 1588: Old Model VS. New Model - Page 2

yesterday was the 18th day, which was day one.  they arn't suppose to hatch until the 15th.  This is the new 1588 that is malfunctioning big time. 

I've never had to adjust the temp on my older model, it runs right on temp all the time.  I would highly recommend a good quality thermometer like the Brinsea spot check for peace of mind and better hatching.  Most thermometers have a range of -2 to +2, far too wide for good hatching.  And having 2 or 3 innacurate thermometers is worse than having none.  At least make sure you check your thermometers against a calibrated one to see how far off they are.

My hatch day is the 16th, I am using the old model and the new model.  New model is malfunctioning big time as well just since lock down.  Set temp reads lower than actual temp reading and the actual temp is not correct on it, the humidity reading is not correct...grrrr...

I have 2 of the older Genesis 1588 Models and both hatch well but like others

the dip switches are a little difficult but usually once set you never have to

adjust them any more!

Been tempted to get the newer Genesis model  :)

The digital readout and adjustment looks just like the one used on the

GQF 1500 digital series cabinet incubators.  I have one of those and it

works really good so I would imagine this unit would work well also!

Will be interesting to see comments from other users that may have

purchased one!

I suggest with any incubator you don't blindly trust the factory settings or instruments. Get a good thermometer that reads to the tenth of a degree and calibrate it so you know what you are working with. Sometimes the factory settings and tolerances are really good for any of them, but sometimes they are not due to manufacturing tolerances.

I mainly use Cooper/Atkins thermometers to monitor and check my incubators!  As suggested by "Ridgerunner", do not blindly trust the factory settings

on your incubators.......check your bators often with a good quality thermometer!  I use both digital and analog but only use those that can be calibrated!

Any thermometer that has a calibration feature/mechanisim, can easily be calibrated!  Just fill a cup or small glass with crushed ice and then cover

the ice with cool water.  Wait a few minutes and then plunge your thermometer or probe into the icy water and wait for the temp to stabalize!  If the

thermometer is calibrated correctly, then is will read 32 degrees F (exactly the freezing point).  If it does not read that, then calibrate per manufacturers

instructions.

You can also check a thermometer that is non-adjustable also!  Just use the same method and you can tell how much off your thermometer is

reading.  To get an accurate reading for your bator, just add or subtract to the thermometer reading the difference the thermometer was when

it was tested in the ice bath  :)

My preference would be to just buy a thermometer that can be calibrated  :)
