Estes Hatchery - Bad Experience ordering locally?

Hi Everyone :)

I've read some great things about Estes here, and since they are not far from me and carry the breeds I want I've been trying to order from them. Trying, because no one there seems to want to take my order... I've called twice, gone into the store once and emailed twice. I first called and emailed a week ago, wanting to get my chicks today or as early as possible. I have never gotten an email back, the first time I called the man who answered was in a hurry to get off the phone, which I excused because it was a hatch day, so when I went in the store to order, instead of writing down my order he told me to call the morning that I wanted them. So I just called and they told me to call back in 3 or 4 hours (instead of writing down what I wanted and either setting it aside for me or calling me back to let me know they didn't have it today.) I fully expect when I call back they will have sold everything. Still no email. Are they usually this way with small orders? Should I go ahead and pay the shipping to order from Meyer? This is my first time getting chicks, I have had everything ready for weeks lol but it doesn't look like I'll be getting any soon hu.gif :(

Seriously?  Find someone else to do business with.  If they are incapable of taking orders, I would not trust them to deliver the correct order.

Find someone who actually wants your business.

i ordered my chicks through mypetchicken.com.  it was a great experience and easy.  although i think they actually outsource the production and shipping through Meyer Hatchery.  i ordered 8 chicks, that arrived next day and healthy - shipped from Ohio to southern California.

I was able to get chicks, but it was definitely difficult. I ended up with the breeds I wanted, but could only get straight run on one of them. I can't have roosters, so crossing my fingers!

I just got some chicks from Estes last friday. I am local so I called the day before, placed an order and then drove there to pick them up. I didn't have a problem with placing the order on the phone, I ordered 3 GLW, 3 salmon Faverolles, and 2 royal palm turkeys. I ordered pullets in the GLW and pullets for the faverolles as well. Only problem there is that they never told me the faverolles can't be ordered in pullets, even though the lady on the phopne took my order that way. I read it in the catalog and sure enough they charged me for s/r faverolles....whatever. The experiace at the store was less then appealing. The people were rude and generally didn't care much about what was going on. You can not look at the chicks they have available, they have to go to the back and bring out what you want.... They chick themselves are healthy and stronge. But after some research on the net I was surprised to find out my fav chicks look nothing like all the pics I can find. they are beautiful chicks, but dark red and chipmunky looking... who knows what I have! I wouldn't buy from them again just because of the way the people acted while I was there.

When i called and wanted to order chicks from them they were rushing me and didn't seem to want my Business, I ordered from Hoover instead and they were great.
