Chicks from Mt Healthy... - Page 2

Just got sexed pullet brown leghorns from TSC - again from Mt Healthy, and a GLW was mixed in so I ended up with *her* (I hope!) by chance. I'm encouraged by what I'm hearing about Mt. Healthy chicks, as I've only had experience with Meyer strains so far.

I think which hatchery TSC orders from depends on where in the country the store is located - ie the ones in Ohio may contract with Meyer, Indiana with McMurray, etc (but I have no idea, actually, it just makes sense).

~Meg~
The remaining 6 of my original 7 barred rocks are 3yrs old and happily divided between a friend and my mom.
Laying: 2 Partridge Rocks, 1 Columbian Wyandotte and 2 Black Australorps. 14 weeks: 3 bantam Araucana.
Cowed to chicken math and sharing my bedroom with 8 BBS Ameraucana mixes.

Yea, that does make sense! I guess I will have to ask my TSC... It would be interesting to know!

My best friends: 30 some odd chickens (BO, BR, GLW, Red Sexlinks, some 1/2 BO, 1/2 any of those breeds), 2 horses (Standardbred, Standardbred Appy X), 2 dogs (Lab x Golden Retriever and Aussy mix), and 2 cats.

Just wanted to give my review of MT Healthy chicks for 2013. I bought 20 straight run silver ;aced wynadottes and 5 buff orpingtons.

All but one of the SLW was a rooster, and honestly they look more like over-sized barred rocks and all have funky combs(not the standard).

On top of that, the buff orpingtons are not really thriving. It became apparent that 2 of them were blind around 4 weeks when i first started letting them outside. I will never purchase from the again. I have had much better luck with cackle.

Jeanne, Jason & Daughter Emily... Milly the Great Dane, Cougie, Jax, Tank and Tigra the cats, English Spot Bunny-Pongo and the girls...Aracuana's(EE), RR's, Leghorns, Buff Orpingtons, Silver-Laced Wyandottes, Barred Rocks,Black Sex Link,Golden Comets, Partridge Rock and some mystery chicks. (15 hens in the coop, and 20 in the brooder)

I am sorry that you have had such a bad experience! I have never had any problems with them, and never heard anything bad either, so thank you for sharing the other side of the story!!

We are in Northwest Indiana and our chicks came from Mt. Healthy.  It is kinda of weird as Townline hatchery in MI is not that far away.

We have chicks from Mt. Healthy via TSC and they are doing good at 7 weeks of age.  Sorry we did not get the breeds you mentioned, but though I would just give you a bit more feedback.

Wife to my best friend, mom to 3 boys, and caretaker momma to 2 fainting goats, 1 potbellied pig,a slew of poultry and a turtle.  Loving life in small town Indiana.
