Candling egg question

Thread Starter

I found 3 eggs under the coop today and I candled them and 2 were infertile, but there was 1 that has a black sphere that moves around freely when I turn it. I also water tested it and it was fresh. I would take a picture, but it would be difficult since it moves to quickly. Are there any ideas on what the black sphere is?

It's fresh (it was probably laid yesterday or today) so I don't see how it could be rotten. I have found a nest that had 3 mallard eggs in it so I wonder if I'm gonna have a broody mallard soon.

Oh, then I have no idea what your talking about haha. You cant tell if eggs are fertile, unless you crack them open.

It's the yolk moving around in there.

Candle a commercial egg and it's easy to see the yolk. Duck yolks are darker than chicken yolks.

It's definitely not the yolk because it's just a little bigger than the size of a pea.

its a bacteria because you said it was laid yesterday or today and its already a little bit bigger than a pea

if it was laid yesterday or today you would see something very small smaller than a pea

I never knew that there could be a bacterial infestation at this early after it was laid. Thanks :) I'll be sure to get rid of it ASAP.
