Is used coffee grinds bad for chickens?

I just put some coffee grinds and ground egg shells on my plants, not thinking that my hens had access to this part of my garden.  Do any of you know if it is bad for chickens if they ingest some?

Thanks

Egg shells no problem but I think the coffee grounds might be, that is if they consume a lot. Chickens are pretty good at knowing what is safe and what is not for them to eat. Search the form....I think that is where I read something pertaining to your concern.

My chickens used to have access to my compost pile with grounds in it. I don't think they ever touched them, just scratched through to see if any good cream-filled bugs were underneath.

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!

Thanks for all your posts. They have been pacing along the fence yesterday. Glad I can open the gate to freedom today.

Darin367 if they get in the coffee grinds, I can put them to work in the front yard and have them get rid a the little bit of lawn we have .  I have seen what they can do with groundcovers!!!
