Desperately seeking organic feed near Albany, NY

Hellooooooo New Yorkers!

I have a small egg operation going, and will be branching out into a heritage turkey breeding program in a matter of weeks. I am going a little crazy trying to find a line of organic feeds for my flocks (through all stages of life) that is local enough that I'm not paying more for shipping than feed.

I have looked at Blue Seal, Poulin, and several others, but am not convinced I've found my answer yet. Maybe there's a small local mill I just don't know about yet?

Your experience/advice would be most appreciated!

I know this thread is a little old, but I'm looking too. Have you been successful in finding yet?

I just found http://www.coldspringsorganic.com. I'm not positive of their location but I think they might be in Sharon Springs, NY. They sell and deliver bulk organic mixes. They also do custom mixes. I believe all their grains suppliers are in New York State grown, too. The website also lists some dealers who carry their bag feed if you're not doing bulk.

I'm also considering mixing my own feed from bulk organic grains and raising my own mealworms. Anyone tried doing either of these? I'd be interested in hearing about your experiences. Please let us know if you've found any other Eastern Upstate NY organic feed supplier. I'll post if I find more.

I live in NY, and get Green Mountain organic feed at Whitman's feed store in Bennington, VT.

Whitman's gets it from Green Mountain as requested, so perhaps GM would also deliver to other Capitol area feed stores? Worth asking...
 
Good Evening, I live in Rotterdam NY and have 12 Buff Orpingtons

I may be able to help, I have a acquaintance who gets her organic feed from a local grower/producer in the Cobleskill area. She is a very strict vegan with MS and other health issues so she takes her food intake very serious. I have emailed her and asked for the name of her supplier. I will respond when I have an answer.

Any updates about where to buy Organic Feed in the Capitol District? I'm in Selkirk (just south of Albany/Glenmont) and would love to buy organic, if it's not cost-prohibitive. Would like to advertise eggs as pasture-raised, cage-free, and organic fed. I have a call in to Cargill Feed to see where they distribute to. Supposedly, they distribute Nature Smart Organic Layer feed, Nutrena, and Country Feed. I don't know about any of these products as we have just been feeding our chickens the ubiquitous DuMor big yellow bags of feed from Tractor Supply ($16). Our Glenmont TSC doesn't seem to carry 50lb bags in anything else.

I realized that I had never replied to my posting about the Organic feed. The following message is what I was sent from a friend about organic feed in my area. I think they are located in Sharon Springs NY. It might be a little far from Selkirk but might be worth the call.

Did you end up trying to raising mealworms? Interested your results... I've been debating doing the same, I try to be as cost efficient as possible..
