Maryland only has 19 species of turtles.

What you had was not a snapper, since the only snapper there is an Eastern Snapping Turtle and what you had looked nothing like it,lol.

The little guy you had was a Eastern Mud Turtle

Hey, we have something in common: I was a Vet Tech for 10 years, and I used to breed mice too. :) frow.gif

As a turtle rescuer/ rehaber.. deff a mud turtle, all turtles can and will bite hard if they feel like it, aquatic turtles are pretty high maintence to take care of, keeping the water clean as they live eat and poop in it. I would release it on the bank near some tall grass at a pond. most likely a bird had it in it's beak and dropped it if you are not with in like 10-20 feet of a pond or something like that. The mom's don't lay their nest too far away from water. Good luck, that one will probably make it with that attitude!

Mom to 2 boys, 2 dogs, 1 foster dog, 2 cats, 1 parrot, 12 box turtles, and now baby silky's!  And a Navy Chief for a husband.

ONLY 19!  Here in CA there is only 1 native turtle, the western pond turtle, plus a few introduced turtles but I would be in heaven if there were 19 species here for me to have had here when I was keeping turtles.
