Does anyone happen to know how many chickens we are allowed to have in Hutto, Texas? I have found this information for surrounding cities, but I was wondering about Hutto specifically. Thanks in advance!

I do believe that you are allowed to keep a maximum of 3 hippopotami, but I don't know about chickens, and couldn't find anything on the web. I suggest you contact animal control.

Sorry, the hippopotami thing is a local joke.

Yes......You can have ten chickens in Hutto TX, Just make sure to keep you neighbors happy about it. That info comes from the Animal Control Officer in Hutto. But make sure they get along with the Hippopotami !

That is good news. I have 4 laying heans in the back yard. they have a coop but also I let them run around in the backyard. we also are raising rabbits. Back yard farm minus the hippos. =)

For those of you here in Hutto who have backyard chickens, do you mind telling me if you are in a neighborhood with an HOA or not (or which neighborhood?) I would like to get some and my neighbors shouldn't mind (our yards are so big I doubt they would even notice them), but I am just a little leery of the HOA...any advice?
Thanks! :)

I live in Hutto Parke, just called homeowners to ask them about chickens myself. I don't see why not. Ferral cats witl ticks and fleas are acceptable, why not chickens right?

Any experience with dog owners & chickens. Our intentions are to keep them seperate, but open to hearing others ideas. Thanks!

My neighborhood has an HOA, I think most of the subdivisions here in Hutto do. I spoke to our animal control agent and she told me that it was fine to get chickens but to make sure to keep them out of neighbors yards, which is easy to do so no problem there. The bad news is that HOA covenants out rule city ordinances so even though it is legal to have backyard chickens in Hutto, your HOA may have a different view on that.

You can try to work around the issue by asking your neighbors "permission" before you get your chickens. Not that doing that will make your chickens "Legal" but it might help prevent your neighbors from turning you in to HOA. It's not going to be easy but I do believe that if you keep their coop clean and you follow all other HOA rules concerning your property, you won't draw as much attention to yourself and your birds. Good luck!

I also live in Huttoparke and want to get started with Chickens!
Would any of yall that live in Hutto be willing to let me come and see your setup?
Especially someone else who lives here in Huttoparke. I'm sure our backyards are similar in size.
My neighbor is really sweet. Not sure if she'd mind if we had chickens, especially for fresh eggs every week. We thankfully live on a corner, so we only have one next door neighbor.

I am supposed to be picking up a rabbit hutch this weekend. Rabbits, at least, will be quieter than chickens... but I really want eggs and meat birds.

I would be happy to help get the word out and help with a petition or whatever is necessary to help bring chickens into the neighborhood.
