Farm Swap at TSC in Lewiston Maine- May 12th, 2012 - Page 13

Yes, I have heard that guinea hens can be somewhat wild, but it is no mind to me. I just want the ticks gone! We found another one this morning, and we haven't even been outside! It must have come in on the cat or dog... roll.png

My best friends: 30 some odd chickens (BO, BR, GLW, Red Sexlinks, some 1/2 BO, 1/2 any of those breeds), 2 horses (Standardbred, Standardbred Appy X), 2 dogs (Lab x Golden Retriever and Aussy mix), and 2 cats.

Since I have had chickens and ducks I have had no tick issues.  Last year I got a few turkeys and the highlight of my morning when I let them out was to watch them jump up to pick the Japanese Beetles off the rose bush.  Once they discovered them they kept the rose clean.

I am not sure I want turkeys-- all my experiences are with crazy mean ones, but this rosebush story is enough to make me think again.  I plan to have Magpie ducks, known to be aggressive foragers, and a variety of chickens instead.... IF my orders ever arrive... alive.   One fickle roo is enough to watch out for. :)

Ok guys! We are down to 2 days away! Time to put in your final lists!

I am bringing some LF hens, 1 year old. And I think that all of them are laying. So a few BO's, a few BR's, and possibly a White Leghorn or two. Final numbers tomorrow morning after I get a good count in the daylight. See you all soon!

Oh, and this just in from Hoppy (aka Kellie) via PM:

"I got a clarification about weaned mammals. this rule applies only to guinea pigs and rabbits, not other livestock that enters the food chain (sheep, goats, cattle, these can be bottle babies and sold without a problem)

I have changed this in the main rules section but you may want to update your swap pages so people know it's ok to bring them."

Thanks guys!

I will be there but since I sold all my chicks last weekend I will only have the turkeys unless my friend has something else t sell. I will however be bringing fresh Rhubarb, and hopefully some more Raspberry plants and some fresh eating eggs. I was hoping to have hatched chicks by now but out of 35 eggs only 10 made it to lockdown and not sure of those. Shipped eggs is taking a chance, these were various swap eggs.

if they are under 8 weeks, you have to sell in lots of 6. if they are close to 8 weeks old you should be fine. if you want to post a picture of the suspected black roo, maybe we can help you tell. I look for head streamers, dead giveaway for a roo.

I am coming to the swap.

I am planning on buying turkeys for sure.  I am in Monmouth, if someone wants to split a purchase of 6 I would be happy to.

I don't have an incubator so quail eggs won't work for me, but would buy a dozen quail if I could get my hands on them, straight run or sexed is fine, any age from adult on down.

Luv My Goats,  I would also buy the  Blue Ameracauna Roo to bring home to my girls.

I am looking to rehome a buff orpington rooster if anyone wants him, he has never been aggressive.

I also have a  black Muscovy Drake I would rehome, he should not be used for breeding, he has a messed up feather that sticks out.

I have two khaki Campbell Drakes I would sell or swap.
