Leghorns are great egg laying chickens. They are friendly to other Leghorns and can easily fly. The only problems is that they are bad in the pecking order and they can make a mess of the yard....

seem like a good breed, if i had the room i would probably raise a batch of them they seem like they would be a good 4h starter show bird...considering i dont see many of this breed in my class...

Oh, I am so sorry about your sweet Sophie. I know how hard this loss can hurt. We, here on BYC can understand and share your sorrow.

My Girls: 3 Buffs, 2 silver laced & 1 gold laced wyandotte, 3 Delawares, 1 Australorpe, neighboring horses and an abundance of wild birds....and the best husband in the world!! A recent addition of Maggie our lab/retriever mix.

i can certainly understand. i lost my dog about a year and a half ago, she was 13 when she died. i also have a pet chicken (a Silver Cuckoo Marans) who is turning 2 in april and i love her so very much!!! she is the only chicken who loves to cuddle me and sit on my lap. she nuzzles her head in my hair and she closes her eyes as i massage her neck/head. i will be so sad when her time comes. but there's a saying that my sis-in-law always quotes (she lost her son to cancer) and it's from Dr. Seuss and it says "don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened". so i am hugging you and feeling your pain.

homeschool mom to a WONDERFUL son (12 and has Down syndrome), 1 hubby, 1 EE, 1 SCM, 1 mutt hen, 1 RIR, 3 silkie X americauna hens, 1 cat (Oliver), 1 Boxer (Kobe), 1 Bulldog (Rocko), 6 finches, 1 budgie and my Buddy who is by my side every day to give me strength and peace....Jesus Christ!
