Peeping Eggs in boiling water- OMG!!! - Page 2

Woops, I missed that part.  I wish it could be explained that way... but nope.  There is no way that a chicken could have got into or onto that bucket (it was tightly fit into one of the corner nesting boxes)... although I am sure that a few would have LOVED to sit on that mountain of eggs!

Wow. I did not know that eggs would start developing at 75F

If you want to see what breeds I have, go here! http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/the-egg-box-farm

I dream of a day when chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned.

Early morning status: we have one fully hatched, and at least 6 little pippers.

The four eggs that were submerged in the boiling water (and emitted frantic peeping sounds) were chilled and garbaged.  hit.gifIt was sad, and a hard decision to make.  I had no idea what was going to come out of those eggs, how far along they were, etc.  If it was just the 4 eggs, I would have put them in the incubator alone, but because I had the giant bucket of eggs to start in the bator, I figured that was the more sensible decision.

I just came across your thread.  I made my own incubator and my first attempt at a hatch totally failed.  It is amazing how eggs that were totally ignored could develop when others have so much difficulty.  Maybe we overthink everything too much???  hu.gif

First year flock mom - so far have 2 EE, 4 BO, 4 BA, 5 Silkies, 2 Peafowl, 15 Araucana, 1 Lavender Orpingtons and 3 Light Sussex.  Barn mom to 2 QH, 1 mini horse, 1 mini jack and 2 dogs.

That is so true!  Typically when I'm going to hatch eggs, I carton & tip the eggs at least once a day while I'm collecting the clutch.  It seems that really isn't necessary!  Good luck with your next try.  Don't give uphugs.gif

Thanks for the support.  I will not be giving up.   I have already made a few changes (Chook's Chicks Cheat Sheet thermometers - wow what a difference!) and am waiting to see how stable it is now.  Patience is a virtue, and I guess I am not very virtuous!  big_smile.png
