Hello from Virginia!

I have been lurking for awhile, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I live in VA. I have 4 children and 3 grandbabies. I homeschool my 12 year old son who has special needs. He loves gardening, and decided that he wanted some chickens. After researching the breeds, I decided silkies would be best for us. We had 3 to hatch out Friday, and we have more eggs due to hatch in 2 weeks. It was so sweet to see my son coaxing the little chicks to hatch. We're hooked already! I've noticed that many people won't ship hatching eggs to VA. Why is that?

because our state government, like the federal government, is too large, has too many regulations, and wants to be in our business at every level. welcome to byc. i am in va too. i think they actually might be rethinking that law.

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan frow.gif

Some states have specific testing requirements for different diseases that breeders must have done before shipping into that state.

Home of the world's cutest dachshund, one crazy blue heeler, two cats,
one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens

Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?

Hello from Arlington VA, where we are trying to get zoning ordinances changed so that we can have backyard chickens too! Be sure to check out the "Virginia" thread in the "Where am I? Where are you!" forum to meet more Virginia folks.

I was recently searching for "Virginia" in other forums, and I remembered reading about the egg shipping question. This post has a bit more detail:

Mark 11:22-23

"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?
