Well I finally got a call back and was told because I only have 4 birds no one will come out to check. They just don't have the resources. And I got the same answer I already knew. They suggest culling or closed flock.

So I'm back to square one. And am just left with deciding I guess. For now they will stay in their coop and run and I'll continue antibiotics. sad.png

Hi, I adopted two RIRs from our local animal rescue league.  They were tested by the Health Department but unfortunately shortly after, everyone started coughing / sneezing / getting runny eyes.  I treated them with some medicine I got from the vet but ultimately used some Duramycin 10 I got at a local tractor supply store.  I just put it in their water.  Long story short they are all fine now.  Hopefully yours will get better too and be good pets.  It's awful that you're going through all this.

Chicken math victim:  I have two buff orphingtons, 4 EEs, one d'uccle, two rescued Rhode Island Reds, and three old english game bantams.  Lucky the hubs has a sense of humor.

The tylan 50 is a working amazingly. The one I was worried about is doing much better today. She was walking around eating going after the grass we picked for them and not as lethargic as the day before. Still diarrhea but not as bad so getting better.

I just wish they weren't possible carriers. I really wanted to get one or two more but I guess that just isn't in the cards.

I think I've decided to keep them and just have them as a closed flock in my back yard. I have dogs that stay out most of the day so I'm not to worried about any wild birds going in the back yard. We are supposed to be moving in 1.5 years so by then they will most likely be spent and I'll offer them as food for someone's dogs. We will enjoy them until then. Or at least that is the current plan.

Well you never know where the military may go, and after treatment you may not have any other relasp..... But carriers, they may always be.... You never know unless you bring in a "sacrificial" chicken to see if it gets sick. The Tylan really helps quickly. Since they are for your enjoyment.... Enjoy them, they sure are cute. Just be careful if you visit other people with chickens and not wear the same shoes etc,that you use around yours. That is why i do not allow farm visits to my farm, people can bring stuff in from anywhere with out knowing it.
You never know, you may find someone who only wants a few chickens as pets and wouldn't mind their carrier state if they stay well. Just be honest with them about it.... If not your plan of them being dispatched afterward..... Although hard.
