Do We Need A Rooster?

Sounds like a good plan, then. I agree that if they will be penned 24/7, you probably don't want to burden them with a rooster. If you decide to get one just for the dynamic, a small one, even a bantam, might be a good choice. He won't overmate the big hens, his crow isn't as far carrying and he can still possibly fertilize eggs, depending on how motivated he is and how large the hens are. My Large Fowl Silver Phoenix (who is a small hen) is fertile by my Belgian D'Anver rooster, who is about 1/3 her size.
 
If you have a rooster, than he will fertilize the eggs which will give them a better taste. if you need a rooster we have four for sale.
