I didn't know starter fluid was needed for hatching chicks or turkeys!  Is it a special brand?  Does it give them a jump start?  This thread has some amazing insights in it and I'm always learning something new!  LOL!!

Congrats to everyone with chicks, especially those with first time chicks *ahem*

I think I need my head examined. CrazyNeighborLady just called me beating around the bush about wanting to borrow my incubator. I'm so direct, I think I scare her. But I'd rather people say what they want/need instead of hoping to get it.

Anyway, I just loaned my incubator and a dozen eggs to her. Well, gave her the eggs. If they hatch or don't hatch I don't want them back. And the thing is, I know better. I do.

However, lack of an incubator should at least prevent certain people from trying to get me in the next hatch right away *ahem*

.... Did I mention I have 6 broodies now?

I have poults!  Not just singular, but TWO have hatched!  (I had to help one - it kinda got shrink-wrapped when I couldn't handle it any more and removed Poult #1 from the incubator.)  So I later peeled off the top half of the shell and put it back for the poult to kick the rest of the way out.

The earlier hatched tutors are already helping #1.

I moved my poop demons (ducklings from Metzer Farms) out into the Big Coop, inside the Poultry Kindergarten Area (with their EcoGlow).

I so didn't expect any to hatch...  two is fantastic!  I set late, so today is the scheduled hatch day - possibly some more may hatch.   fl.gif

Buncha Outdoor PET chickens, ducks, two Toulouse ganders, and four turkeys. Plus 2 wiener dogs, some bunnies and a rescue cat which owns me. Oh. And a house silkie....

Quick *stupid* question... why does it look like my poults (who are incredibly sweet and wonderful by the way... love.gif thanks more than words Dsqard) have a unicorn like head protrusion?

lau.gif It's what makes them a turkey!!   THe snood. It hangs down their face. THe boys is larger so in a few weeks you can start guessing who is a boy, or girl. Takes a while for it to develope before you can be sure!!

Ok I told you I had absolutely no idea about turkeys.

I am SOOO loving my EcoGlow that I got after the Easter Hatchalong for the poults.  It is unbelievably nice not to have to worry about the heat lamp and the light constantly shining 24/7.  thumbsup.gif

Congrats on the poults   fl.gif   that more will hatch for you!!

Isn't that the truth?!!  When I go into the garage, I call out to them and they "tweet" at me.....sooo sweet!!  I had two that I put band-aid "braces" on because their legs were sprattled.  Took the band-aids off today, both are getting around fine now.
