THough we can't always control what a chicken eats, and is  she getting enough calcuim, or what her body does with the calcium. Seems like the new to lay girls are my biggest offenders!

Well I did write a song to go with my dance but it just doesn't translate well on the internet.

I also realize it's a bit premature, but how do you store the turkeys after butchering? I can barely fit a chicken in a ziploc bag.

I use heat shrink bags for whole birds, parts, turkey sausage and turkey burger

they come in different sizes

THe bags not only need to be big enough but strong enough. I took 8 to the butcher in Nov and the 35# toms fit in the bag BUT the bag tore when I picked it up. ARGGHH!  Had to put them in white trash bags. Definitely needs the right bag for the job!!

What I didn't realize was how many other areas come into play when raising birds for food. Like having the proper knives for butchering. Very sharp a must. I used a scalpel! LOL I need to learn how to sharpen knives, too now.

Yeah we had the same issue and had to buy some nice knives after the first attempt at butchering two roos with a dull knife and a pair of cheap and old poultry scissors. Think I might try to do the ducks this weekend if I can figure out what to put them in.
