I wanted my turkeys to get off so a good start so I set 9 dozen chicken eggs. I think I need more than a straight jacket. I set Serama, Showgirl, EE, OE, Icelandics, LF and bantam Langshan, RIR, Golden Laced Polish, Cuckoo Marans, Welsummers, BLRW, and bantam Wyandotte. (and for Deb, a Partridge in a pear tree).

Since we are graced with a number of experienced turkey owners, I would like to ask if everyone would share their knowledge of each of the turkey breeds. APA and non-APA.

Like which are meatier in the breast and thigh.

who are the good foragers

Temperaments are important with kids around, also include which lines within a breed

Actual adult sizes as I keep reading, needs improvement

and how to cook them!

LOL, you have me beat!  I also set 11 turkey eggs, but with a mere 79 chickens eggs for company (Serama, Showgirl, Silkie & Araucana), but alas.............no Partridge (and I don't even have a pear tree).  Since they are all shipped eggs, I might throw in an egg or two of my own for insurance (hopefully that will cause ALL the shipped eggs to hatch).

The difference between breakfast and chicks, is the temperature you use to "cook" the eggs!

What breeds do I have?  More than any sane person would own.

I hate to butt in here, but if you love or have ever loved the dog, take him to the vet and have him put down.  Call around and check prices, go with the cheapest, they all do it the same.  It is the kindest way.  He won't have to spend time in a run, without family and not understanding. He won't go through the "gas" experience or the freezer or what ever method they use.  The dog can not be adopted, the vet has the same outcome as the pound, only faster, and more tranquil.  I know it's hard, but you can walk out as the shot is about to be given.  It is more expensive, but what price is peace of mind, knowing you did it the easiest way for him?

Sorry, off my soapbox now.  I had my horse put down Wednesday, it was terrible.  He got down sometime before daylight, I got there at 7:30am,  he was suffering and the vet couldn't get there till 2:00pm.  Then he asked me if I was ready!  I told him I had been ready since 8:00am.

So sorry, Wisher.  I'm Sorry animated emoticon  It is hard to make the decision, but it definitely the best in that situation.  Our 31 year old horse (well he would have been 31 on May 4th) was fine this morning and at noon.  My husband let the horses out in the pasture around 4:00 to clean stalls, and Peaceville Prince went out with the other three (his marem).  He apparently had a heart attack, and was gone in a matter of minutes.  I am sorry that he's gone, but so glad he went like that.    big smiley crying emoticon

We got triplet baby nubian goats tonight!!!  We were just finishing up at the barn tonight and I told my daughter, I think Taffy might be in labor... so we sat down and waited... caf.gif  Sure enough about 15 minutes later she delivered a little girl... wasn't breathing..  right afterwards she delivered a little boy... so I'm working on the girl with a towel, rubbing her, blowing in her mouth... Taffy's working on the little boy..  then about 10-15 minutes later out pops another little boy!!

The two boys were doing really well when we left...  The little girl is still really weak so we brought her home and we're keeping our fingers crossed.  I milked some colustrum before we left and I've gotten about an ounce in her with a syringe.. DD has been holding her, wrapped in a towel on top of a hot water bottle to keep her toasty warm...  For those of you who pray for your animals keep Miracle in your prayers tonight!!

I'll take the camera out to the barn tomorrow and get some pictures..

Jess, the 5 gallon bucket behind the broody, is that a nesting box?  If so, cool idea!
