Leghorns are great egg laying chickens. They are friendly to other Leghorns and can easily fly. The only problems is that they are bad in the pecking order and they can make a mess of the yard....

seem like a good breed, if i had the room i would probably raise a batch of them they seem like they would be a good 4h starter show bird...considering i dont see many of this breed in my class...

I don't have a pic handy but I'm trying to figure out what I got in my free "rare breed" from McMurray Hatchery. I don't know how to determine gender so it could be hen or rooster. It's about 5 weeks old and and as a chick was black and yellow. Now it's black and white speckled but with no pattern. All the pictures MH has on their website shows patterns in the black and white chickens. The comb on this one is also growing at a faster rate than my leghorns or black star, which could indicate a rooster but could also be a result of the breed.

Help if you can, if I need to post a pic, I can in a day or so.

I revisited their website. They don't have Exchequers but they do have Anconas and the pic of the chicks looks very similar to what mine did. The pic of the adult is a drawing so it's hard to tell. I'll keep an eye on it as it gets older. Thanks
