Hope to learn lots

Hello Everyone

My husband and I are just about ready to order our first batch of chickens (buff orpingtons and a couple barred rocks) from our local agway.  I have wanted chickens for years but hubby has been a bit resistent.  We have been getting fresh eggs for years from a friend of my husbands and we have been fine with that...

However, after this past weekend my husband decided that he was sick of is pulling massive numbers of ticks off my dogs (we have 9 showdogs) and we have decided to employ natural egg giving means of tick destruction and eradication.  This means in a nutshell that I get my chickens.

I have alot to learn about chicken care

building the coop

socializing so they are nice chickens...

What do you all do if you go on vacation... ??? we have property in NY that we go to fairly often....

I am excited about these guys but nervous at the same time.... I want to make sure that they are healthy happy chickens and that the dogs leave them alone I would love for everyone to be able to live together happily... My husband and I are both vegetarians so they will never end up in a pot.

I know the coop will be in the back in the dog yard... so we will put the coop there and have a secondary fence wihtin the dog fence... so that chickens can be away from dogs if necessary...

I am looking forward to learning lots

Why don't sheep shrink in the rain?

Why is there brail at drive up ATMs??

Why are their floatation devices instead of parachutes in my airplain seat???

If a tree falls in the woods and my husband doesn't hear it, am I still wrong????

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?
