It's a home-built unit with a reservoir under the wire mesh floor that takes up a little over a quarter of the floor.

I remember seeing a picture of it over on the hatching thread.  What about adding a couple thick sponges?  I've done that with good results.

That's the next thing to try. The humidity is pretty high in the room the bators are in, the windows are steamed. idunno.gif

Do you have ventilation holes in it?

Only the ones that have wires going in. They're not sealed tight though, because we were worried about sealing it too well.

Well all the bators I've ever seen have ventilation holes in them....part of the reason why ambient room affects them....????

Here's my good news! I replaced the water reservoir in the hatcher with one that had more surface area and it shot right up to 70%!

Also, I candled my latest test batch of my ducks' eggs and 11 out of 12 are developing. Hooray for the drakes who are doing their jobs!!! celebrate.gif

Well, 3 ducklings hatched (helped one a little when it hadn't gone from pip to zip in over 24 hours).  But the other 3 were fully developed but no internal pipping and clearly deceased upon opening.  What would you more experience hatchers suggest for problems?  I started some in a homemade bator until day 10 then I sorted down to the 6 fertile (out of 12 set) and then the rest of the time they were in a brinsea mini advanced.  I did open and spritz them once daily until lock down when I filled full reservoir and spritzed well.  Any suggestions appreciated. caf.gif  (Note: not sure DH is pushing for bigger hatches, lol hence how I talked him in to my brinsea.  See honey, it only hatches 7.  He wasn't really fooled but I of course want 7 of 7 to hatch)

Blessed with a wonderful spouse and kids along with a multitude of animals.  My chickens are mostly blue copper marans but a few "fun" ones and my dd lavender bantam ameracauna's and serama's as well. I also really enjoy my saxony ducks and call ducks.
