Duck Hatch-A-Long ~ Wanna Join? - Page 9

I'll join in - I have 6 saxony eggs in bator due in 8 days (hoping they hatch and my 5 holderread saxony ducklings come at same time fl.gif ).  I have 12 gray call duck eggs in bator.  Last 10 weren't fertile yet so here's hoping they've got it going.  All from show lines but new drake with them as well so hoping.

Looove ducks (and chickens)

Blessed with a wonderful spouse and kids along with a multitude of animals.  My chickens are mostly blue copper marans but a few "fun" ones and my dd lavender bantam ameracauna's and serama's as well. I also really enjoy my saxony ducks and call ducks.

Yeah, just grey.  New to call ducks but just really enjoy them.  One is supposed to have brooded her own successfully before, we shall see, not counting on it.

Had to toss a bunch of eggs today. Blah.

One runner, one unknown out of the 4/11 bator. Rotting. Glad I caught them before the kaboom!

13 eggs out of the 4/17 bator. 9 clears, the rest bloodrings.

I guess this stuff happens with shipped eggs. Either way, I've still got more eggs in the bator that are looking awesome.

I'm new to them, too...and absolutely love them!  My butterscotch hens brooded successfully last year, I was told.  I may let them set a batch later in the season...but not right now.

What kind of eggs did you toss out of the 4/17 bator?  Shipping is definitely iffy...but for the most part, I had pretty good hatches when I was doing a lot of incubating/hatching in the past.  But that was mostly chickens.  I did do a lot of shipping in of goose eggs one year, and I'd say the average hatch rate on them was a bit lower.

Most of them were from my own ducks. I need to give those drakes a pep talk. But also a couple penciled runners and a couple saxony.

You and me, both!  They've got the actions down, just waiting for live ammo!

I got a fertile egg once. It went into cookies. Those boys need to get to work!
