What breeds won't mix well with Faverolles, Polish or Buff Orpingtons?

Smart thinking on your part - I had wanted Faverolles from the start. So, I got my chance last month and I jumped on it.... Now, I have 2 flocks. Yes, 2. The girls I had from the beginning will not have anything to do with the Faverolles - except pecking on them and harassing them.

My first flock consists of 2 BW Ameraucanas, a BC Marans, a W Marans and a BO..... and the weird thing is, the BO has just been with us for 2 months. She was accepted immediately. It's been almost a month and the Faverolles are still treated like outsiders....

Maybe Faverolles and Polish???

Good luck

it seems like mixing households. i don't have any experience w/polish. i have my first bunch - one each of slw, bo, barred rock, & black aust. very well adjusted bunch. they know their place & no squabbles. i'm in the process of merging five young ones - 2 production reds (which were supposed to be buff orp), two black aust, and one delaware - youngest of all.
the buff orp is the most tolerant of the young ones. the black aust seems the most agressive. the silver laced wyandotte likes to bully them, but not with serious intent. she just seems to like to see them run from her. the barred rock is pretty tolerant, but not friendly toward them. i don't know if any of this will help in your breed selection or not.
good luck. i like your choices alot.

So even the orps picked on the Polish? I had heard orps are really "laid back."

Well, I have an order in to Sands Hill for Scots Dumpies and will get a secondary breed of their choice, so it will be down to 2 breeds. I do love the Polish, though, and the Crevs and Favs, so it sounds like I should pick one and build a separate small coop for them (but, that is a project for NEXT year.)

Thanks for all of the advise!

Tracey

Yes, I think you are right, Favs and Polish should get along. We'll see what Sands Hills sends me as the 2ndary breed (if my order gets filled this year) and then go from there. There are just TOO MANY fabulous breeds from which to choose!!

I have a polish rooster and hen housed with barred rock, EE, white leghorns, and RIR...havent had to many problems... Right now i have salmon favorelle chicks housed with a bunch of other babies and they seem to all get along ok...

I have many different breeds and have found that if you get them all at the same time and same age they get along for the most part. When I had to separate my polish when one got it's head feathers pulled out, I made the mistake of adding 5 other docile buddies to keep her company while re-growing. It was hard for them all to be reintegrated a month later. I think you always need a satellite pen of some sort or at least a fence within the coop to separate if someone gets picked on. We had a faverolles rooster who went from top dog to being picked on by every single chicken including the banties, so you never know what will happen.

Poor guy! I have an Ameraucana hen who's bold enough to reach over and peck at my SF roo occasionally - I couldn't believe it! On the other hand, the SF roo chases my other Ameraucana hen, she's afraid of him.... You just never know

I've had Polish in my mixed flock for years and NEVER had issues with them being weak, picked on, or flighty. I think one issue is the ratio - You need more than just 1 or 2 or 3 Polish in the flock. The other thing is, you need good strains. A lot of hatchery birds out there due to bad breeding are going to be pretty weak, or flighty, or submissive.

I don't think there's any breeds that don't do well together except Oriental Gamefowl, which, I doubt you'll ever get your hands on.

I've got over 20 Polish in a flock of over 50 birds and they're some tough little buggers, both boys and girls. They're also super friendly and very good foragers.

That's good to know, I kinda shied away from Polish because of this issue.....Then, I go off and get some Salmon Faverolles! Ya'll know what that means?! - I can get some more chickens!

Sweet!
