Defense department was 19% of the federal budget in 2011.

It should be 70% being as the fed was started for national defense... Now it is busy doing everything else an what little is spent on defense is used over seas....

The fact that they made an "homeland" security office because everyone else is over seas says a lot...

Police, no.. Guarding the border an coast an being in the country to be called up in an emergency..

Not the military.... That is what the FBI an the CIA should have been doing all along.

If someone in the next town makes threats on your family you call the cops in your town an the other town then protect your family by protecting your home.

You don't stick one of the kids to frisking everyone in the family down every time the go to the bathroom then take the front door off the hinges on your way out to the next town to be a vigilante.

That's what we are doing. TSA treating us like crooks, frisking us. Our military, CIA an FBI are in other country's being vigilantes while practically no one is guarding the boarder where anyone can walk in.

The right thing to do is fortify your house an protect them at the door.

We should have our military watching the boarder. An the CIA an FBI should be making sure we know who should not be let in an going after any that are here.

We can't kill every potential terrorist but we can keep most out of our home.

Then we just lay off everyone in homeland security ?

You do not have to lay off the workers at homeland security.  Just put them in different positions.
