1) four months three longer then expected due to people quitting or moving or other lame excuses...

2) WE LOST MORE THAN DOUBLE OUR BUDGET

Total time 3 weeks.... due to living on the Oregon Coast and the rain...  Cost about $500 for a 4 x 6 coop and a 6 X 14 run.  I figured it'd be $400 but the cost of good roofing (suntuf) and hardware cloth and hardware. was way more than i figured.

My coop took 8 weekends to complete start to finish.

After getting the most expensive lumber(Pressure treated 8" poles)for free. It only cost me 3x what I had planned.

Craigslist, $350!

I bought this 4x8 coop from craigslist. Made from recycled material. Picked it up in the morning & had chickens in that night.

Came complete with nest boxes & roosts.

Stayed right on time & right on budget.

Gotta love craigslist!

I worked on and off on mine for about a week . I was on nights when I was building most of it . I figured I have about 18 to 20 hours in to it . The only thing I had to buy was the wire . Had everything else . Having all the power tool help cut down on the build time . I'm still thinking about building a outside run . Not sure on that or free ranging them

srbecky,

I understand your problem.  I don't want to buy a lot of tools that will not be used again or struggle to learn carpentry skills that others have spent years developing.  I spent three weeks trying to find someone who could or would build a coop and run for any kind of reasonable labor charge.  Craig's list is a good place to search for used coops, new coops, and chicken tractors.  I found a man who builds chicken tractors and he said he could build me a slightly larger stationary coop/run on the same plan.  He is a laid off house contractor looking for ways to make cash flow.  The coop/run cost $400 with delivery and it will house six hens.  It looks pretty- barn red with white trim for the run boards. Check out Craig's list.  If you don't find something right away, keep checking.  This is the time of year that people are advertising.
