Is it ok for chicks to have cheese?

Someone on here told me that week old chicks could have cheese as a treat so I've been giving mine bits of shredded mozzarella and cheddar each night when I get home from work.

Is this okay? They seem to love it and go insane when they see me coming.

Since I work 1pm to 10pm every day I don't get to spend much time with them.

My chicken coop is now inhabited by chickens!

I am fairly new to chickens so, take my words of wisdom for what they are worth. I say if you have been giving them cheese for a while (a week or more) and nothing adverse has happened, I would imagine your ok to do so. I have done a fair amount of research on what our feathered friends can eat and there is very little off limits. Good luck and keep up posted as to how it works out, hell I may start giving cheese as a treat.

It is probably not the best, but it is probably not affecting them much either. Many people feed dairy products, but chickens are lactose intolerant. If you do feed it, is important to feed it in moderation, because it contains a lot of fat. Maybe you could try scratch or some other treat. They would probably like that too.
