Anybody setting today (3-25) or tomorrow (3-26)?? - Page 7

Shhh, don't tell anyone, but I candle my eggs almost every day, even during lockdown. The air is so dry right now that I have to add more water to the reservoirs, even during lockdown, otherwise it would run out entirely. That means I have to open the incubator up anyway, so I candle while I'm at it. It helps me to make sure the air cells have reached the proper size, it tells me if any of the eggs have pipped internally, etc. So I would say sure, go ahead and candle!

They are in a dry air incubator and i have kept the temp between 98-101 but i dont have anything to measure humidity. Although I have kept the water reservoir full. Any thoughts?????

I set my first eggs on March 26 in the late afternoon so I think this is where I belong. I understand that I need to take them out of the turner on Friday evening and they should start hatching sometime after that. My eggs came from a neighbor with Barred Rocks. I hope you all post how things are going for you so I know what to expect. Thanks :)
Hens: 16 Leghorns or California Whites, 5 Trader Joe's Leghorns, 14 Red Stars or Gold Stars, 10 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Rhodes Island Reds, 4 Silver Laced Wyandotes, 4 Ameraucana, 7 Barred Rock, 1 Silver Laced Wyandote X Barred Rock, 1 Leghorn X Barred Rock. = 64 Hens - chicks 89
Roosters: 1 Trader Joe's Leghorn Rooster, 1 Leghorn X Barred Rock Rooster
Nursing Home hatch-a-long

So sorry that I haven't been on this thread! For some reason I stopped getting my notices for stuff that I subscribed to!

Anyway, I logged on to say that the hen that I discovered under the shed hatched today!! I checked on her this morning, and I heard chicks peeping inside the eggs, and then we were gone all day, and I went out to check as soon as we got home! So, I found her gone, and one baby hatched, and one that was almost out of it's egg when it died. I think that she shrink wrapped it when she got off sad.png ..... Anyway, I will try to get some pics! I am trying not to disturb her, I don't want her to get up again, I want the fate of the other eggs to be good, but I am worried about how long she might have been off the nest!

My best friends: 30 some odd chickens (BO, BR, GLW, Red Sexlinks, some 1/2 BO, 1/2 any of those breeds), 2 horses (Standardbred, Standardbred Appy X), 2 dogs (Lab x Golden Retriever and Aussy mix), and 2 cats.

Well my broody is still sitting on ten eggs and I have the one I took from her because it was covered in an others broken shell and poop in my ghetto-bator and they all look good. I am not sure about two of the ones in the coop as I am new to this and candling is a bit tricky. I set them all on the 25th so tomorrow is day 18 I think. I guess that means lock down? for the one in the bator? I am so excited but also cautious as I know that mother nature and I may have different plans and I can only hope and pray for the best.

Sorry to hear about that first chick Mychookschick I hope she has better luck with the rest of her babies.
