It all depends upon the bird. Some of my birds are better then others and if they don't botherwith the squabs/squeakers they go into the kit box. Homers and Rollers are commenly used.

i throw my hat in the bag for rollers. By far the best. the more show/ exotic the bird, ie, jacobin, frills, ect, the less a good parent i've learned. but that's just my two-sense.
