I am so happy for you. It would have been sad if you had to get rid of one because it was a male. I am actually hoping one of mine is a rooster. I wanted one Roo and he is one of my fav already.

Yeah, I don't want to deal with fertilized eggs and my daughter has been attacked multiple times by roosters in the past so she's pretty scared of them.

There are some roosters though that are just gorgeous!

I totally understand, when I was a little girl I was literally beat up by a billy goat, I haven't liked them since, even the ones that I was told were not mean.

*Sigh* were I only to have read this post before purchasing a barred rock "pullet". Pretty sure mine will be crowing soon. I'm too new to post pics, but the chicken in question is my avatar.

Here are my two Barred Rocks at 9 weeks...I definitely have one Male, one Female.

Here is Barry

Here is Barbara

Barry is lighter color, stands more upright, bosses everyone around, even our adult hen. He is the only chicken that the laying hen doesn't pick on, actually she is quite submissive to him and even squats down if he makes a noisy fuss near her. He is starting to make weird noises too. Like when he eats treats I bring out, or when it is time to go in the coop at night. He is the leader of everyone. He also sits on the highest roost at night, right next to our laying hen (the only adult chicken I have).
