Sexing Barred Rocks - Page 80

post #791 of 822

I posted two more pictures of the one in the front

I'm a mother of 3 wonderful children, but every mom says that. I'm a grandmother to two beautiful girls. and a wife to a loving husband. I have 3 dogs that I love as much as my children and now I'm a chicken MOM, and love my girls. Raising chickens is fun, and so far I'm doing a great job.

I think boy, but you won't really know for sure until saddle feathers start showing up.

@country girl44

You lighter chick could be a boy, but I would not start looking for a new home for it yet. That comb still says pullet. I have a couple BR girls that are lighter than the rest. If it's a male, the comb will be much bigger and getting red by 6 weeks. You wouldn't see the saddle feathers until 10 weeks or later.

Happy wife, mother to 3 wonderful kids, 2 cats, 1 dog and 28 chickens...that were originally supposed to be 8. Not sure how that happened, but we love them all!

Those are saddle feathers. See on the cockerel, they are straight and pointy looking. They are also much shinier. They start about the middle of the back.

This site is a wealth of knowledge. We just got our first chicks in March and have already learned so much. You should post your chicks again in a week or two so we can see how they are turning out. :)
