When the guy started shooting him he started screaming for help.

It really baffles me people will defend such a trigger-happy, irresponsible man.

An overly paranoid man made a mistake and a kid is dead.

You did reword it, no "slightly about it

Let's keep calling it "following" since those are the words on the tape

There are 2 witnesses now who SAW them fighting, with Martin on top and Zimmerman yelling for help

It baffles me that you keep ignoring all those facts

If you read them, you'll see two people saw  Zimmerman being beaten.  They both said HE was the one yelling for help.

The police were there within 2 minutes of the shot being fired, and the evidence they found matched his story.

It's all documented

Here's a more balanced report - take note - the jewelery was never tied to any robbery.  It could have been Trayvon was paid with it rather than he himself taking it - that might account why it never came up stolen. Could have been holding onto it for a friend who took it from his own family members - could have been Trayvons family members - point is, never convicted of that as a crime or burglary.  A screwdriver may be used as a tool to break into things or fix something.  Again, no crime was ever linked to the screwdriver and Trayvon.  It's silly to call him a carjacker - where do you get that from? http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2012/03/27/police_investigated_trayvon_martin_over_jewelry/

You keep forgetting he had Zimmerman down on the gound and was beating him

Two witnesses saw it

That is a crime, and one that justifies the use of deadly force

The fact the jewelry wasn't "tied to a robbery" means nothing at all.

Maybe whoever it was stolen from didn't report it, or didn't even know it was missing

The point is , it wasn't his, and he had no explanation as to why he had it

so, if some strange man that you didn't know started following you down the street in his car, then got OUT of his car and started following you on foot, you wouldn't find that intimidating?     You would just tell him "Hi Stranger that I don't know.  Yes, I live right over there."  ?   Personally, I'd have my hand on my own concealed gun because I would be in fear of my life.

Yes, Martin did turn the tables when he approached Zimmerman.  But, was him defending himself from what amounts to a creepy man in the bushes any different than Zimmerman protecting himself from what he perceived as a threat?   On the other hand, Zimmerman had been told to "leave it alone."     Why?  Because the cops were on the way.  And the #1 rule of all neighborhood watch groups?  You DO NOT get involved and especially don't get out of your car.  You call the police and let them handle it.     Zimmerman decided to take matters into his own hands and play cop.     As a direct result of those actions, an innocent person who was simply walking home with a drink and a bag of skittles is now dead.

Sorry, in my book that means you are at fault.    It's like the old quandary, a man is falling past your window and you shoot him dead.  Did you commit murder since he would probably have died anyway?

the ironic thing is that the "stand your ground" law actually applies to Martin in this case more than Zimmerman anyway.

Walking along, strange person starts following you.   Person gets out of his car and starts following  you on foot.   Martin confronts threat and uses force to protect himself.    That is the very essence of the law, is it not?

I made the original assumption and was advised on a different 2nd amendment board that a civil case cannot be brought up unless there is a criminal conviction.

Had Martin stopped and held his ground, then the SYG law would have applied to him. As is reported by some media outlets, true or not, after having evaded Zimmerman, Martin approached and the altercation began. If that is the case, then the SYG defense for Martin falls short.

A few things worthy of mention here, Martin knew someone in that community and may not have been a stranger and Zimmermans' word is being believed that he did not know the kid but the rest of his word is not believed...hmm...

If I were being followed by a guy I did not know and was fearful of him and I was a 15 year old I think I would have got away from him and went to the nearest home for help.  Zimmerman was doing his civic duty as a member of that community and I would not expect a cop to go to work without a weapon no more than a guy on a neighborhood watch to do it without a weapon.  Cops assume a suspect is armed why should I not assume the same thing.  There is such a thing as a citizen's arrest.

Martin may have felt a gun on Zimmerman when they were fighting and tried to get it who knows...Zimmerman does and if he did cross the line at that pivotal point it may never be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

If anyone here walks this earth believing America is a racist country this will never be a country free from racism.

Had there not been a fight I may agree with that scenario.

A lot of thought policing here.

Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton agreed on little publicly, but they did agree that when the public treasury becomes a public trough and the voters recognize that, they will send to government only those who promise them a bigger piece of the pie

I hope he offers to pay for their hotel and food costs. So far they seem to be civil about it. They could sue him by all means. It doesnt take much for a gang to come over from Pine Hills (aka Crime Hills) and do something.
