The silkie will be more of a pet than any of my other chickens and I plan on having the brooder in my room, and the silkie with me whenever I am home and when I am not home I will give it a stuffed animal or something as it will HAVE to go in with my other two silkies. Unless it turns out to be a roo which I pray it doesn't then he will have his own pen as my other silkie roo doesn't take kindly to strangers. I can't put it in with my other hens as they are to mean. My other plan is if I put in more eggs I may give it one friend and they share a coop together, which may be the best plan. I am nervous about having two seperate hatches, especially since I am having trouble with just one! So will have to see what happens. My plan for this hen/roo please pray that it will be a hen is I really want to see about pet therapy. So as a chick I will have it with me around the house, and as it grows will learn to wear a harness and diaper and train it be good with people. So I am praying it will have the temperment needed to do that. and from what I hear about silkies they are generally friendly and good with people. So am hoping.

Hey hun, good luck on your other eggs. Have you got your incubater stable now or is it still a bit iffy?

Thanks. And its staying pretty stable I notice a 1 to 2 degree change once in a while, but for the most part it is staying them same. Added two more eggs yesterday, and will candle the eggs we are unsure of. Will leave the silkie egg alone for a few more days. Don't want to disturb it to much.

Arghhhh i have a big crack in my runner egg sad.png. It looks like the bars have been too close and theres a big dent all the way down the egg! You can nearly see the egg! Ive candled it and the duckling is still moving. Im on day 10 for the runners! I darent put neil varnish or wax on it incase it seeps through the egg. I will post a picture tomorrow on the PC, im on my iPad and dont have a lead.. Any suggestions??

Thats to bad. I hope it goes okay How long till it would be ready to hatch? Will the crack affect it that much, or could it make the chick weak or unhealthy?

Okay, so just had to post this before I went to bed cause it is very exiting! We candled the eggs it appears a few more are growing! They still look a bit dead so we decided to open one of them and we found veins and what looked like the heart. I feel bad but I am hoping that means a few more are growing. And on another exiting note I decided to do the silkie egg and I saw a heart beat!!! This is so exiting! I am now hoping for maybe I will get more then one chick. Oh and I noticed veins in the other silkie egg. Not as prominant as the first, but still there. Will check them again in around 6 - 7 days.

Oh heck that's a big one! I'm not sure what to suggest other than waxing it or maybe even tape?

Not sure what "a bit dead" looks like but if you see veins then that means they are still alive. The veins will disappear if the embryo dies. Glad for you that they are developing though.
