Great job with the chicks! People should educate themselves about animals before they make quick decisions.

I'm irritated, as well. The decision to get an animal should not be based on awhim, or "cute holiday icon". Goodness, many people do more research buying a car or television - but think nothing of buying a living, breathing animal on the basis of cuteness. And the fact that the women didn't even have food for these babies sickens me. One of the basics of life was deprived to those little ones. Again, sick. And her children now have to deal with losing these animals. At least she did one good thing throughout this entire ordeal....giving them to you to care for properly!

I am irritated by the fact that the person who sold her the chicks didn't make sure she had just the bare minimum she needed to take care of them.  If you sell someone chicks you should ask if they know how to care for them.  When we purchased our first chicks they gave us a bag of hay and a bag of starter pellets.

This story makes me livid as well... so glad you were there to take the chicks.  But what I really want to know is how did you not kick the lady in the booty right then and there?  Because if someone showed up on my doorstep with any animal in that condition I would literally kick them.  Probably not the best way to encourage people to give up their mistreated animals, but I'm sure I wouldn't be capable of logical thought in the moment.  I am such a sucker for mistreated animals- the idea that anyone could willfully buy or otherwise obtain a living thing and not at least provide it appropriate food and housing or do even worse to them... disgusting. 

 

So glad to hear the chicks are doing well, and I wish them a long, happy life with you!

THank God you were there to accept them...there are those of us that get the reputation for taking unwanted things.  I am glad that I am not the only one!  Good on US!

Unfortunately, happens. When I got my runners a few weeks ago they only asked me how many I wanted. I asked them questions. 1. What are they feeding them? 2. Are there any vitamins in their water at this time? 3. Have they been fed anything more than crumbles, if so, have they been given grit?...and 4. What has their heated lamp temp been while in store.

 

It's those few that don't ask customers, that give a bad name to all of the people who do care to ask.

I'm afraid I can't help you as I'm not allowed to raise chicks myself, the youngest I'm allowed to purchase is at point of lay, but I just wanted to say how annoyed this makes me. D: Why would you buy vulnerable baby animals like chicks without even knowing what they eat or practically anything about them?! When I got my very first group of hens as a present from my Dad I had spent ages saving up money and reading about caring for them and getting everything set up! Seriously, they're only little chicks! But I wish you all the best on making them better and hope they make it, good luck!
