Hello I'm Marc and' I've been on the site a few weeks but never saw the intro forum thread so my wife suggested I make an intro. Since I'm smart enough to do what ChickenWifey says, I'm making my intro now 
We live in Mooresville NC which is 20 miles north of Charlotte and will be recognizable to all NASCAR fans as Mooresville is the Mecca of race shops.
We have 15 3.5 week Wyandottes but only plan to keep 6 (we live in a neighborhood). We order eda Wyandotte 15 bird "variety pack" from chickensforbackyards,com. They seem like good birds and didnt loose a single one. They have such awesome personalities. We ordered 15 because it was winter and there was enough of a price break on shipping that 15 was about as economical as 6. My wife has found a nice 80 acre farm for the reaming 9 to go to when they leave our brooder.
I'm also in the process of building a coop which we have gotten a bit carried away with. We will need about 10 years of 200 eggs per bird to get a return on investment on our coop!
however much I joke about the cost, we are really enjoying the experience and since woodworking and building furniture is a hobby of ours it's really a lot of fun.
We are thinking we'd like to get our kids into 4H and also see if they can show some birds...we'll have to see if we have anything show worthy once they are grown. If anyone is in our area and could tell us more about 4H events or other poultry shows, please let us know.

from Ohio. So glad you joined. You might want to hold onto the chicks until you are sure you have pullets. Some variety packs could include some roos. I hope yours are all pullets.
