Power Outage Scare - Page 2

I would have bottles of water put up and a camp stove(which I do) with fuel to cook on it. Before I got into chickens I was with out power for 6 days and water for 4 so I really found ways to make it everything work. We also have a wood stove to heat with or to even cook on. I was thinking them hand warmer you find for hunters, placed under a towel or newspaper might help too. keep them feet warm can help a bunch.

Thing we think of to keep our chickens safe.

 


I thought about those hand warmers but I was worried about possible fumes???

I was thinking of getting the small ones for if I ever bough chicks from TSC since I am over an hour away.

Chickens a hobby or a job, not really sure but it it fun to do!

I had a chance to test my solar charged battery and inverter last week when the power went out at about 5AM. While the setup will run laptops and charge cell phones for several hours, it only runs a 250W heat lamp for about 20 minutes. :(

 

Thankfully, my 4KW generator was fueled and ready to go. I will be adding more batteries to the solar system when finances permit. It comes in handy and is silent, unlike the generator.

When I move we are going to see about getting a solar panel system from Harbor Freight. I just home that it will work for when the power is out.
