Rhode Island Red Thread!

@cmom I think this is a better spot.
What's the difference in the Reese and rose comb? Being in CT which is better for cold climates?
Also I understand if you don't want to sell to me but this would be for true dual purpose birds. Which is better for eggs? Which is better for meat? What time frame until ready to butcher size wise? Meaning full grown. This will most likely be for spring time. Do you see any issues shipping to CT?

Thank you

I breed for show quality. I do have some in the freezer but I sell mostly. I do maintain around 150 to 500 birds. Currently I have around 300 birds to choose from for my breeders. I maintain 5 breeds, SC RIR, RC RIR, RC RIW, SC White Leghorns and RC Dark Brown Leghorns. For colder climates many people prefer close combed birds such as RC birds. But you find most breeds everywhere. Depending on the breed or comb type, I think how your setup is will dictate the breeds and types. I hope this makes sense.

I do ship eggs all over the country. I do have a sign up sheet that is online but I have to update it first. I like to do test hatches first to check the fertility rate before I start shipping eggs. I ship and have had others ship eggs to me so I know the risks. I do try to pack the eggs for hopefully no damage. I'm setting up my breeding pens after the holidays then after a month I'll collect the eggs and eat a few first when I check for fertility, I try to make dishes that use quite a few eggs. Then I warm up the incubator and do a test hatch.

Hello everyone. I am new to chicken health issues. I am hoping for some advice. I keep running into dead ends with a lack of veterinarians in my area that will see chickens. If I have to travel, I will. Until then, I am hoping for some seasoned wisdom.

I have a four week old Rhode Island Red. She has been wobbly for about a week now and can no longer support her body weight. All my other chickens are healthy. She is isolated from the flock. She is eating and drinking, and seems pretty content except she cannot walk. Her feet are splayed under her. Here is what I have tried/important information:

1. Isolating and keeping her under heat lamp
2. Vitamins, because I initially suspected vitamin deficiency
3. Probiotics
4. Electrolytes
5. Her eyes are clear, all orifices seem clear.
6. She is responsive to me.
7. She is pooping on a regular basis

She is not getting worse. She is also not getting better.

I’m no expert but it sounds like your doing just about everything you can do aside from taking to a vet.
