Started eggs today! 3/30/12! Hatchalong anyone???? - Page 2

Yep! I got 6 more on Monday, and then 22 yesterday. Phew!  I have 44 eggs in the bator!

I already candled a couple from the first set and found both were developing. I'm going to candle all of the first set tomorrow night. I think it'll be too early to see much in the Marans though.

Hi, I'm joining in.  I set 5 Barred Rock eggs (the first eggs from my young Barred Rock trio) on 3/30.  Candled them quickly today b/c I need the room in the bator if they aren't good, and they all looked ok so far.

This sucks.... only 4 of the 11 eggs in my brinsea have anything growing in them.. and a couple of those look a little funky... I have a bad feeling about this...

Yeah, I already found 4 blood rings out of the first 16 eggs. But I did see several moving chicks too! My Polish eggs are all totally clear, but they're only on day 4. Still, I'm skeptical. These were the eggs that wound up in the wrong house. By the time I set them, it was already 6 days after she shipped them, plus they came all the way from Oregon.

Well, I guess then it would be good to buy eggs that are closer in the future so that less mishap occurs.

You're probably right, maybe getting eggs from ALL the way across the continent isn't the best idea wink.png Oh well, I was more excited about the BLRW anyway, and they seem to be coming right along. I'm trying to resist the urge to candle today.

Where did your other eggs come from?

Earlier this evening I smelled something foul in the bator, and found a leaky egg. As soon as I got it outside, POP!!! Explosion! Super. Gross.

Well this got me thinking. I usually leave everything in the bator till day 10 just to be sure, but since I'm leaving town tomorrow, I decided to go ahead and candle again. I didn't want any more smelly grenade eggs going off while I'm not here. It was disappointing. I had to pull 5 BLRW with blood rings, but the other 3 were all active and kicking. I only had to pull one more Maran. I was surprised to see clear movement in almost all the others. Only 2 were iffy, but they definitely didn't have blood rings.  I didn't candle batch 2 or 3. I'm saving that for Monday night.

I really hope at least one of the BLRW makes it! Those eggs are so porous.
