HELP! One of my 3 day old chicks can't poop!

Did you check for pasty butt that may be the problem

I was keeping a watch for pasty butt....this was internal for the most part. It looked like their anus was swollen shut. They did look different from the start... they were EXTREMELY rumpless compared to the others.

How pretty, I do love the second one. Hope you share more pics while there growing. Would love to see how they turn out.

I will....I am excited to see them in full feathers. I am sure they change color alot....Right?

They are so cute! I can definitely see the resemblance to Easter Eggers. (Or actually vise versa...) I'm looking forward to seeing how mine color out and what color eggs they lay. :D Such exciting breeds, aren't they?

YES!!! It's like a present that has been unwrapped...... but the box hasn't been opened yet to see what you got!

Pasty butt is where poop sticks in or around the butt causing constipation solving this problem is easy take a wash cloth and wet it with warm water wipe the butt till it's clean then stick baby chick back in brooder

It wasn't poop stuck to their butt.I had a few Wyandottes with pasty butt, and took care of the problem. This was poop INSIDE the body jamming up and not passing. Within one day of helping them clear the lumps their anus was disfigured and was pretty much swelled shut. They didn't have ANYTHING outside of their body to clean! They would attempt to poop every few minutes and not pass much of anything and would scream in pain. These chicks had a GENETIC problem...as I said before I contacted a VERY knowledgable Araucana breeder. She told me about the genetic defect and that they can't process waste normally and it opens them up to infection. Her advice to cull them was sound. It was not as simple as wiping a chicks butt!!!
