Grit for birds

Is grit required for Chukars to digest their food properly? Or is this already included in the crumble game feed or not even in there because its not necessary?

I am pretty sure it is included in the game feed, I may be wrong

No grit is included in any feed.Yes,all birds need grit to help grind their food down.It should be readilyavailable to them at all times.Chukars also love spray millet,the kind you feed to finches and such.

What do you use for the grit? I guess it should be in some sort of small container in the cage?

All feed stores carry grit or oyster shells.You can put it in with their feed dish or even mix it in with their feed.

OK I got some some small size grit today from the feed store, and mixed about a half cup in with their food and shook the container up to spread it out evenly. I also sprinkled some around the cage on some of the wooden parts of the cage. Is it possible to have too much grit available to them? Or will they only use it as they need it?
