When do I give up on incubated eggs?

Thread Starter

I had a hatch date of 3-28 for some Buff Orpington Bantam chicks and nothing has happened. I had one egg moving around all morning, and now it is quiet. When do I call it quits and unplug the incubator?

Update: I opened the egg this morning, and the chick is dead. It would be moving if it wasn't, right?

I'd give it at least another couple of days. They could be delayed if your incubator was running a little cooler.

Chickens off and on for 25+ years and still learning.

I would Give them at least 5 extra days after the 21st.. Even after that I would candle them to make sure they aren't just being slow pokers... Check to see if they are still alive and moving.. If so then they may need some help....
