I dont think actuall cedar limbs wil poisin them, just cedar shavings.... I like to use stuff that doesnt have sap... If not just let it dry for a week or so in the sun..... 3-4" is a little big, it can cause breast bone mutations... I think 3" is the widest you want to go... mine are 2"
