I thought Swiper was a fox. :)  I heard Swiper no swiping all day for a year and half when our grand daughter lived with us.

Our dominant hen had a fox encounter fall before last. Initially, she had lost some feathers but seemed ok otherwise.

She failed to molt that fall, and again in the spring. I think it must have been the stress.  She kept laying (best layer of the flock) and eating and being a hen. She became very moth-eaten and lost all of the feathers on her head. Her skin turned bright red wherever she was bald. She finally molted last fall (a year late) and got bright shiny plumage in again. Just thought I'd share Splash's story in case your hen might have a similar problem.

my 8 wk old chick was saved from the jaws of my dog by hubby.  dog had already killed 10 of her fellow chicks.  she had a skinned back & i thought i would lose her at first.  since i just had 3 other birds left, crowding was no issue.  i left her in the coop, put blu kote on her wounds and put her in the nest box with a heat lamp on her since she seemed so cold.  first day she did nothing.  second day she drank alot of water then went back to doing nothing.   she had the biggest poop i had ever seen.  it's a wonder she was able to pass it.  third day she ventured outside for a couple of minutes. 

the others took turns laying beside her & talking to her.  day two she began talking back to them.  i don't know the long term results, but she seems to be making a come back.

that fox needs some lead vitamins
