I've searched the site and the net. I found laws for many other cities and counties but i cant find any for robertson co. tn. I'm ready to build my coop but dont want to have to move it once done. any help on this would be greatly apperciated. How far from property line or dwelling must i build my coop?

It sounds like you are in the county, not in city or town limits. Any Homeowner's Association that might limit you?

I suggest you call your county law enforcement agency (non-emergency number) and talk to them about it. Do they have a specific animal control officer?

Another possibility is to call your county executive, whatever you might call him/her, and ask who would know the laws. It's possible there are no county laws where you are. I'm in a different state and outside city limits. As long as I don't go commercial, I don't have any laws limiting me.

no home owners assosiation.  Do you mean calling the sheriffs office? Non emergency #. I have a friend right down the road who has chickens but she didnt check any laws or anything just got them. however her backyard is larger than mine & she has them in pretty much the center of the yard. I just dont want problems from neighbors or law inforcement. I'll make the call , Thanks again.   Anybody else have direct info on this.

I live in Robertson County right behind the sonic. I called the city hall a couple of weeks ago and they told me that they are passing the new ordinance as we speak to match Davidson County. There will be a maximum amount and only hens no roosters. I will check back in the morning and see what they say if it has gone through yet.

is this going to apply to inside city limits only. i'm not in city limits. I'm really interested in finding out if there is a certain distance i have to build my coop from property line or dwelling other than mine. Thanks for the info though & keep me posted please.

So I check the mail today & find an anonymous letter with an attorney's name and info about restrictsions on my neighborhood. It states that no poultry live stock or other animals shall be allowed or maintained on any lot yada yada yada . This is for a period of 30 years from the date the restrictions where issued . Which was July 11th 1985. So if I read this right I can legally own chickens in roughly 3 years. This bites!!!!!!!! If I didn't receive this notice in my full disclosure when buying the house , can I fight it & win?
