Silkie Roo crossed with Barred Rock hen!!

I have a white Silkie rooster in with my mixed flock of hens.  Many of the girls have bald backs so I decided to put some eggs in the incubator.  2 hatched today!!  The have black skin, beak and eyes with feathered legs and their feathers are mostly black with some white mixed in.  SO ADORABLE!!!!!  jumpy.gif

My 4yo son tried to hatch an egg in his bedroom, in an Easter basket with his favorite blanket and Curious George!!

If the mommas were barred rocks, your babies are sex-linked. A white spot on the head means boy, and the bird will be barred like momma. Solid colored head means pullet.

Okay, typing and thinking about this, I'm not sure how it works with silkies, if they're dominant white. That may mask some of the sex-linkage? Anyway, congrats on the hatch!

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!
