I set 12 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte eggs on 4/2/12.  I have a tiny flock of two BLRW roosters and 2 BLRW hens.  I'm hoping to have a really good hatch on 4/23/12!  I bought the parents late last summer as one week old chicks and they are the best birds!  Very friendly and docile.  I have 7 eggs in my other incubator that are due to hatch on 4/12/12.  Those I have candled and I have 7 of 7 fertilized.  I'll candle the ones I just set probably in two weeks.  I like to candle about halfway through and then on the 17th day before lockdown begins so I know which ones to keep and which ones to toss.  I'll take some pics and post them later!  They are in my homemade incubator that I made from a medical grade shipping container.  I had great success with it last summer, but I used shipped eggs and gave all those babies to my aunt!smile.png

I'll join in! I set a dozen "mutt" eggs on 4/2 in my homemade incubator. I successfully hatched out 3 turkey poults in March with the bator, and now that I've learned it's silliness, I think I should have some pretty good luck (I hope).

My roos - a production RIR and a breeder quality BLRW

My hens - two black Ameruacanas, a buff laced Polish, a California Grey, a Light Brahma, a GLW, a few RIR and a few Red Sexlinks. I know I have four blue eggs in there and one from the Polish, one from the California, and the rest could belong to any of the brown layers :) Should be pretty fun to see what comes out!

I just candled my first batch of blue eggs and i can see definite embryo development in 9 of them!celebrate.gif  Two look like they might have a ring and the other (from the young lav.) I couln't see a darned thing and the egg looked very porus.  I am going to candle again on day 10, if those three look the same I will toss them.  I will do the other batch then too, though I am not counting on being able to see much in the Marans.  I am so proud of my lil eggies lol!lol.png

I have some "mutt" eggs as well.  I am curious to incubate some of them to see what the chicks would look like.  The rooster is a splash BLRW.  I have two hens that lay blue eggs as well so I'm interested in trying to hatch a batch of all blue eggs!  I bet they would be really pretty chickens!  I did candle one egg this morning!  I couldn't resist, since I had to turn the eggs anyway this morning!  I just grabbed one out real quick and put the candler to it!  It looks like its growing but I was really fast since I didn't want the temps or humidity to drop too low while I was being curious!  I didn't expect to see to much though since I just set the eggs on 4/2/12!  It is really hard being patient!  I'm excited about this hatch though because I'm finally hatching out my own eggs!  I've always purchased and shipped eggs but know I am able to incubate my own!  I'm hoping that is going to mean a much higher hatch rate!  celebrate.gif

I'm the same way.  My husband thinks I'm losing my mind more and more each spring!  I wish he could understand how much fun it can be if only he'd try it!!

I did early candling yesterday 4/4 as well. My fish tank top covered with a towel in the dark worked pretty well. I could barely make out little red veins on 9 of the eggs. one looked to be possibly unfetilized, and the other I just couldn't see anything no matter which way I turned the egg it was dark. I am going to candle again at 7 days, 12 days, and 17 days.
