I use the pine straw over gravel, I can hose it off for a bit before I have to pull it all out. There is no hosing straw or pine shavings.

 

We changed our drainage, and have a trench leaving out from under the duck run now, dries things out faster. Filled the trench with gravel too, and covered back over with dirt and grass. Major improvement, making a route for the water to leave through more quickly.
