Hot Chicken Coop

It is only April and it has already reached 80 degrees.  We built a new coop this winter, it has plenty of ventilation and space. The coop is next to a tree line, so it is mostly shaded.  It is getting really hot in the coop during the day. I have been freezing water and putting it in the cages to keep the chickens cool.  What can I do to keep the coop cool during the day that is more permanent than frozen water bottles? We were wondering about a solar fan or something? We do not have electricity available to our coop. Any ideas?

A solar fan to pull out the hot air will probably help.  Adding insulation will also help.

I give my chickens frozen fruit and vegetables to cool them off. I put ice cubes in their water and they love it.

I like the frozen veggie idea :)

There is a cross breeze, but in the dead of summer we do not have any breeze.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a solar powered window fan?
