7 DOZEN EGGS!! Gracious! I hope you have a gigantic brooder! lol.png That's a very generous replacement! Sorry your first candling wasn't great, but it sounds like you've still got plenty to keep you busy!

My first candling went pretty well. Out of 28 eggs, I pulled one that was sweating (possibly old? It never developed.) and I pulled 2 blood rings. The rest all have wiggling chickens! I'll never candle before day 7 again. I could even see chicks inside the Maran eggs!

It definitely helps having a brooder full of chicks. It's a good distraction that keeps me from overscrutinizing what's going on in the bator. Those little ones grow fast huh? Mine are getting big for the brooder. I'm planning to move them to the coop next weekend. I have a compartment built in where I can hang the heat lamp. It's perfect for letting them slowly adjust to the outdoors.

I use the large rubbermaid containers as brooders, i will have tow of them on the go. I will be selling alot of them, but i want to keep some of the silkies, buff orphs & glw's.

Hey, who lays the green eggs? I have 2 dozen of them growing and I can't remember the name of the breed.

When mine come out of the brooder this time of year, they go to my mares stall in the barn (she gets banished to the big paddock for the summer, less stalls to clean) and I put them in a kiddies pool. So easy to clean and maintain. I use it for my meat birds in the summer too!

Good to hear your babies are all doing well! Mine were all sold (barred rocks) before they were 48 hours old and I have a waiting list for the next batch...lol

Ah I see. You've got quite the business going. My hatches are always too small for selling chicks, but I am hatching eggs for friends this summer.

I thought the only breeds that lay green eggs were EE, OE, and sometimes Ameraucanas or Araucanas? I've had lots of green egg layers, all EEs except one, who was a weird mix of something. She was half buff orpington and half a mystery. I know she had some Ameraucana blood in there somewhere, which I guess technically made her an EE, but the hatching egg she came from was sold to me as Buff Orp haha! Her eggs were the weirdest beige green color. And she had a giant white beard. We named her Dumbledore.

How many breeds did she send you? Are they labeled?

Well, I'm pretty sure blr is Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, p rock...Plymouth Rock?, and blk pen...Black Pendesenca?  I'm not sure about those last 2. Wow though! What a cool mix. I'm guessing those 26 are Easter Eggers. I love EEs though, you never know what they'e gonna look like. What color are the 6 mystery eggs?

I haven't candled any of mine, but I wait to set them until Sunday night, so I'm waiting until day ten. Hopefully the eggs are light enough this time that I can see through them, my flashlight isn't the best. I should probably find some batteries for my higher powered one.

P rock could be partridge rock or plymouth rock. I'd bet the green ones are EE.

I got in touch with the gal I got the eggs from, the blue/green ones are Americauna!!

The mystery eggs look like BR eggs, some a bit smaller, some a bit darker, but all the size of a BR.

I'm going to candle both batches on weds night. The frist batch will be 14 days on tues, but I will wait until batch 2 is 7 days on weds and candle them all at once!

Isn't weds your candle day Brooster?
